What we do
Viva Organica is at the forefront of bringing green innovations to the ground in sub-Saharan Africa to reverse land degradation & restore fertility of our soils. We are transforming food systems with one morsel of waste at a time.
Leveraging on vermicomposting, a biotechnological process, we sustainably convert organic waste into nutrient rich fertilizers and soil conditioners to improve soil health. Organic fertilizers that are locally available, effective, and affordable for our farmers. Through our partnerships, we employ AI tech to help farmers better understand their soil requirements, implement early integrated pest management solutions and biological solutions.

Women lay a crucial role in contributing largely to the food basket and nutrition in households and the local food economy. 60% of our target market are female farmers and Viva is proud to create and sustain jobs for women along its value chain. To date the team has 3 full time employed female staff.
By remediating over 50 tonnes of waste from the environment and making organic fertilizers from it, we have worked with over 300 famers in restoring the natural fertility of soils with a total of 200 hectares.
By end of 2024, our goal is to empower 12000 smallholder farmers annually through training and adopting our products, with an average of 24000 Hectares of land restored, with 12tonnes of carbon dioxide sequestered by their enriched soils.
The Team
Viva Organica was founded in 2016 by Mmakwena & Amogelang, with humble beginnings using upcycled furniture and a backroom to produce its first batch of organic fertilizers using vermicomposting worms and kitchen waste. We have since grown into a youth led start up with a staff of 5 of dynamic young people.
